OPEN CALL 2024 FAQ
Every ITMO student, graduate, or staff member, as well as students and faculty of other universities, ITMO’s current and future industrial partners, and representatives of other organizations. The contest is open for Russian and international citizens.
If the project leader (even being the only project member) isn’t employed at ITMO at the time of submitting the application, in the event of receiving approval for their project they will have to become employed at ITMO University within 60 days after the results are announced. This requirement covers all applicants, including those from other cities and countries.

Although there are no rigid restrictions on the topic of your project, double funding for the same tasks is prohibited. However, you can list the grants competitions you’ve won, such as those from the Russian Science Foundation, as evidence of your experience with the topic.
Apart from funding your project, ITMO University offers you access to its expertise, human resources, infrastructure, and partners. There is no strict limit on the funding you might expect at the time of application, but you have to substantiate the funding you apply for with planned tasks, events, and, most importantly, respective planned results of your project. The key principle is that the project’s budget has to correspond to its results.
Your project has to be completed within up to three years. Biannual reviews of project results will be held to determine if subsequent funding should be provided.
You can be an executor in no more than two projects. You can also head one project and be an executor in another.
You don’t have to include an extensive list of everyone on your team in the application but you have to include the members who will make up the core of the project. It is expected that the project’s key executors (those team members whose competencies will affect the evaluation of your application) will remain unchanged. However, this isn’t a strict rule and the makeup of the team may change throughout the project, following respective official procedures.

Yes, you can offer your competencies to the winning teams. The complete list of winning projects will be published at the end of the open call.
All projects will be monitored by the university’s administration, coordinators of strategic projects and M-platforms, as well as the Development Strategy Management Board. Project teams will have to present biannual reports describing the results they achieved within their projects.
All applications are reviewed by experts from ITMO and outside the university, who are leaders in the specific field of the projects, be it education, management, culture, or others. The final decision for each application passing the initial review will be made at a session of the Development Strategy Coordination Council.
Each track of the open call has its own unique qualitative and quantitative evaluation criteria.

- Project relevance and significance: correspondence with the 2030 Development Strategy, novelty of the topic and suggested solutions, coordination of expected results with those achieved worldwide
- Resources and experiences: competencies of project leader and their team, available material and technical resources
- Quality of project presentation and feasibility
- Suggested project impact: measurable social and economic effects, as well as potential further applications of project results
- Educational activity indicators: number of students engaged in the project, number of students who acquired a CPD qualification, ratio of CPD program graduates
- Research activity indicators: number of publications in Q1 journals
- Transfer and commercialization indicators: revenue from the use of IPs, volume of external co-funding
